Shakespeare did not influence my poetry

We all know that Shakespeare is considered to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest, playwright and poet that ever lived.  I tend to disagree.  I have read A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and I really do not see the spectacular side of Shakespeare’s poetry yet.  And I really don’t get his raunchy sense of humor.  Maybe his poetry will be more…appealing once I have read more of his plays.  I doubt it, but I will try to be open-minded when it comes to Shakespeare.  I tend to be antagonistic when I am faced with reading bestsellers or media spotlight material, whether it be movies, books, or music.  My bias puts me in a tight spot, since I can’t be entirely sure of my feelings toward the famous (or infamous) object/subject I must form my opinion about.  I have learned to love poetry in general, and I have found many poets that I like and associate with. 😉  Shakespeare isn’t one of them…yet.  🙂 Anyway, here is a couplet written by me when I was feeling inspired…it just came to my mind.

Is Love Eternal?

by Natalie Gorna

Though love stronger than death can be,

Loosen these bonds and set me free.
